X-Squad (PS2) Gameplay -No Commentary- | PS2 Launch Game |
X-Squad was a mostly unspectacular PS2 launch game that is engaging in it's own way. I had to play through this level a couple of times to get good gameplay footage, and while this game is definitely cheesy, and a bit generic, I still found myself enjoying it for what it is.
The controls are the modern dual-stick aiming with copious amounts of auto aim thrown in, but the game give me a Winback vibe where it was never going to be a premier PS2 game, but for a B-rated effort, you can have some fun with it. This would have been a great rental for early PS2 adopters. It even has some cool ideas like letting you buy items and new weapons with the points you score in each level. Overall, this is a fun mid-tier effort. If you can get into it, you can find some good amusement with it, and as a launch game, I can imagine people playing it to enjoy the shiny new visuals of Sony's brand new Playstation console.
NOTE: Perhaps the most interesting thing about this game is that it was developed as a joint venture with Squaresoft and EA who had a partnership at the time.
