When I'm covering something on the PC engine I generally pick songs from games that either weren't released on the system, or were on CD and don't have Chiptune versions, that's not the case with this one, Detana!! TwinBee was released on HuCard, so the entire soundtrack already has a PCE PSG version, but here's the thing, although it is an excellent port of a gorgeous game, I really think the music in it could have been better... So I took it upon myself to cover my favourite song from the game based on the Sharp X68000 version! It's the Stage 3 theme! I hope you like it ^^

I was uncertain which version of the game I'd record gameplay footage from though, since most of what I cover on the PC engine isn't even on the system I just go with the footage of whatever version I based my cover on (or happen to be able to emulate) but this time I could have proper PC engine footage to go with this PC engine game, so I went with that, I thought it was more appropriate in the end, even though I could have recorded the far superior X68000 version, which is the version I'd usually go for...

About the game itself though, Konami shooters aren't the easiest ones to get into, some people really don't like them because of how unorthodox their powering up systems tends to be, heck, I myself used to dislike pretty much all Konami shooters that weren't Axelay, but one thing is for certain, if you stick with them, if you get used to their quirks, you'll come to love them because not only do they often look and sound amazing, but they're also a LOT of fun to play!
The TwinBee series is kind of infamous for its "Juggling Bells" powerup system, it's quite a bit harder to get used to than Gradius's "incremental selection powerup system" because it forces you to decide whether you want to be safer and just keep on shooting, or try to risk it and collect the bell when it's in the right colour so that you can power up your ship, here's a good strategy though: Learn what each of the bell colours do, power up early and fast while you can, and DON'T DIE! If you can do that you will have a much easier time with the series, seriously though, if you get used to it you'll find that it's really not that hard, I've already beaten 2 TwinBee games and I'm not even that good at shooters... (This one and Pop'n TwinBee, both on Easy and Pop'n on Normal)
Unfortunately I'm doing quite terrible in this playthrough, I had just died once in the previous boss battle so I got to stage 3 without any power ups and had to try to power myself back up only to get hit as soon as I got any decent powers every time... Thankfully I had gotten a few extra lives in the previous stages so I didn't Game Over...

This game is GORGEOUS! The graphics are incredible, very colourful and detailed, and it even manages to do quite a bit of parallax scrolling on the PC engine by cleverly using sprites as background objects, with only a little bit of noticeable flickering (mostly if you're powered all the way up)
Yeah, this is not the best version, the X68000 version wipes the floor with this one in almost every way, but this version still impresses the hell out of me! I mean seriously!
