I had plans to cover something else, but then this song got stuck in my head and I just wouldn't be able to relax until I had covered it on the PC engine...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm concerned, this song went unused on the original PC-88 version of Ys 1, and it stayed unused until the later remakes introduced a new first town in the game, Port Barbado, so they've decided to use it there... I think it sounds beautiful, I just couldn't go much longer without covering it!

This cover was based on the original PC-88 version, but the gameplay footage is from the PSP version of the game, which also contains this particular version of the song, albeit a slightly sped-up version of it (either that, or it's bad emulation on my end)
I've picked this version of the song to base my cover on because it would be the easiest to do justice on the PCE, the original only has 6 channels after all, and that's because 2 of them are just doing de-tuned reverb, so there are only like, 4 instruments playing at a time, and they're all pretty simple!
The lack of percussion also made things easier on my end, if you've been paying attention to my past video descriptions you might be aware of my endless pursuit for the perfect PSG drums on the PC engine, and how much I have to juggle around with the row-timings on the tracker in order to switch around between noise and wave modes and back, I make it sound harder than it actually is, but it's definitely easier not to have to do it for once...

However this is not my favourite version of this theme, that would be the DS version! Legacy of Ys books 1 and 2 is probably the worst version of Ys 1 and 2 in almost every way, but it does shine on the sound department, that version sucks but it somehow manages to have my favourite version of Ys 1 and 2's soundtracks, beating out even the CD quality TurboGrafx-CD versions and the FM-tastic PC-88 originals!

I want to cover this song again sooner or later, but make it based on the DS version instead, and try to make in a way that it takes more advantage of what the PC engine can do sound-wise, you know, with drums and all, perhaps even take some inspiration from Ys IV and Legend of Xanadu 1 and 2 soundtracks? We'll see...
