As expected, the council, while generally pleased with our continued progress, did take note of the escaped UFO. A black mark on our record that will continue to sting for some time to come I imagine. On the whole, however, the funds raised and additional personnel were a clear indication that the council are still committed to this project.
I chose not to wait after leaving the meeting with the council, and instead immediately authorised the launch of Operation Shattered Engine. I've made the mistake of letting EXALT lie one too many times, this would not be added to that list.
As expected, their base was well manned, and our troops faced a distinct numbers disadvantage. Thankfully for us, however, while most of the EXALT troops seemed to have undergone some extensive genetic modification, our troops held a significant technological advantage in the form of their armour and weapons. Nevertheless, it has been a hard fought battle so far.
EXALT have their backs against the wall, and like any cornered animal, this has only made them more dangerous...
