xcom enemy within mobile multiplayer (android): zig2101 vs drim3n (recon assaults)
Happy mother's day to all you bad mofos out there who play xcom.
My new frenemy in xcom: enemy within, drim3n, has been using an interesting build lately. 4 recon assaults with neural feedback, stims, and alloy cannons + 1 agent with mimetic skin and a plasma sniper rifle. While this build can be powerful, especially against teams that invest too much in psi units (he wiped out my ethereal team pretty easily), I think there are some weaknesses that can be exploited.
First, this squad relies on timing the usage of stims perfectly. If he uses stims too early or too late, his recon units don't have enough health to withstand sustained attacks from my units. If you can run away until the stims wear off, then you can easily kill the recons.
Second, recons have only 67 aim and because he's using alloy cannons, which have lower aim against far-away units and especially flying units, it makes their aim even worse. He has to waste several turns shooting at my floaters while I slowly chip away at his squad from above.
Third, although recon units have run-and-gun, which lets them dash and shoot in the same turn, they don't have rapid fire, which lets the assaults shoot twice, and which is what makes assaults with the alloy cannons so deadly. Since they can't shoot twice, he has to rely on his numbers to take out units. Against many weaker units his team is pretty strong, but he has a hard time trying to kill both my MEC commando and commando assault. Leaving either of them alive is dangerous for him because the MEC can still melee for 6 damage against a stimmed unit without chitin plating and an assault with rapid fire can kill his stimmed recon units in one turn too. Once you take out one or two of the recons, by then the stims will have worn off and you can finish off the rest of them.
This video contains 3 fights against drim3n with his recon assault squad. In the first fight I use my MEC and commando assault to quickly take out his team.
In the 2nd and 3rd matches, I use heavy floaters, which his recons have trouble shooting down because of their low accuracy. In the 2nd match he sees my floaters launching around him so he's forced to attack before he can use stims. In the 3rd match he's able to turn on stims but he uses up a few turns trying to shoot down my floaters. Once the stims wear off, his units are easily picked off.
