XCOM Enemy Within Multiplayer: Countering Mechtoid Spam (Part 2)
0Remember, when you see an opponent with a point total of 18,700 points in Enemy Within, he's most likely attempting to do a mechtoid rush (5 mechtoids + 1 sectoid commander). When I saw deadrogueguy's point total I immediately switched to my anti-mechtoid squad composed of :
4 sectoid commanders
1 psi guardian
1 plasma rifle sniper with the lurker mod (mimetic skin)
Besides having zero Will, making Mechtoids extremely susceptible to psi abilities, another glaring weakness of the Mechtoid is their inability to climb ladders. You can take advantage of this by hiding your guys on rooftops, which I do in this video. Another point of weakness is the sectoid commander who's applying the greater mind merge with the mechtoids. Once you kill the SC, the mind shields go down and each mechtoid suffers 3 damage. In this map, which is probably the worst possible map for a mechtoid rush, I went straight for the rooftops and tried to identify where his SC was hiding (you can tell where it is by the purple glow). Once I was close enough, I lobbed two grenades over to kill the SC and from there the rest was just mopping up the rest of the enemies. I took out one of his mechtoids with my sniper, then used my sectoid commanders' psi attacks to panic or mind control his remaining mechtoids. After that my opponent dc'ed.
