XCOM Enemy Within Multiplayer: Countering Mechtoid Spam
A popular team from Enemy Within multiplayer (Android) is 5 mechtoids + 1 sectoid commander. I admit I've used this team or a variation of it more than a few times and while you can easily get wins this way, most of the time the matches end up becoming pretty boring. If you're on the receiving end of a mechtoid rush and you're not ready for it, then you'll be dead in a few turns and believe me--it's not a fun experience. With mind shields up, the mechtoids are difficult to take down, and if you're surprised to see 4 or 5 of them bearing down on you then it's already too late. Thankfully there are counters.
First, if your opponent's point total adds up to 18,700, he's using mechtoids (5 mechtoids @ 3200 + 1 SC @ 2700 = 18,700). No one would waste all those extra points unless they were doing a mechtoid rush. If you see a point total of 18,700, then change your team and your plans accordingly.
Mechtoids have zero Will, so they're very susceptible to psi abilities. Using mind control, panic, and mind fray on different mechtoids can take them out of the fight and buy you time. In this video, I use a team of 4 sectoid commanders, one psi guardian, and a deadeye sniper. The plan is to basically mind control most of the enemy's mechtoids, which turns the tide in your favor and also has the benefit of removing the mind shield instantly.
I did make a mistake since my telekinetic field did not reach my SC who did the first mind control (or I could have tossed a smoke grenade), and that SC was the most important one to protect. Luckily the SC has a built in defense of 20 so if an SC is in half-cover, it's the equivalent of full-cover. Even the mechtoids had killed my vulnerable sectoid commander, though, I think I still would have had the advantage (although the match would have been much closer). I was able to mind control 3 of his mechtoids and killed one, leaving my opponent with just his SC and one mechtoid. This caused my opponent to surrender the match (surrendering in Enemy Within on Android unfortunately prevents the other person from getting a win, so it's the equivalent of a disconnect...not sure if other players are aware of this, but it's annoying nonetheless).

Those other weaknesses are
1. Mechtoids can't climb ladders
2. If you kill the sectoid commander who's mind merged with the mechtoids, the mechtoids lose their shields and 3 health.
