Previously, the party explored and cleared out the Argan Cathedral Ruins on the Black Mountains. Then, they carried out the quest "If Walls Could Speak". They will now continue climbing the Black Mountains.

The party resumes at the Colony 9 Camp. They skip travel to Valak Peak Camp, Black Mountains.
1:39 - Black Mountains
The party takes the Ether Slide north of Valak Peak Camp. It takes them north and down to Prison Island.
They find a Container to the west. Contents include a Nopon Medal.
Up the northern slope, they find an Ether Channel to the north. To the southeast, they seal a Fog Rift. Their rewards include a Black Shard.
The party continues southwest along the upper western path. When they come to a walkway, they find a Black Crystal. These walkways make me think of Castle Zvahl in Final Fantasy XI.
The party reaches the Gravina Bridge landmark. They take care of a sudden Fog Rift partway across the bridge.
The party also encounters the Sensational Gigapur, a Level 47 unique Laia. Its drops include Lessons in Unity, vol. 8, and a Nopon Medal.
West of the bridge, the party continues on. At the next snowy ridge, they to northwest and find a Container. Contents include a Nopon Medal.
In the north of the ridge, the party constructs a Ladder. Up it, they find an Ether Channel. They continue through the next door and find the Third Sanctum secret area. A quest starts here, but they will save it for later.
The party returns to the snowy ridge. A scene with Matt and A takes place as they approach the story target to the south.
Up the slope, the party constructs an Ether Lift. At the top of the dizzying ascent, they find a Black Crystal behind some ice. They encounter another surprise Fog Rift as they follow the path east.
Continuing on, the party discovers the Gondorl Cathedral landmark.
48:58 - Gondorl Cathedral, Black Mountains
Just inside, the party discovers the Corridor of Silence. They view an Affinity Scene about this ancient place.
Up the eastern stairs, they find a Container. Contents include a Nopon Medal.
In the north of the chamber, the party finds the Celestial Compass at the altar. This allows the player to set the time and weather when skip traveling. Handy! Just to the west, they find a Container. Contents include a Nopon Medal.
The party finds a Fog Rift in the center of the chamber. The huge Draigul fogbeast is extremely dangerous.
The party goes up the western stairs. To the south, they find a Black Shard.
The party exits west to the Travalga Bridge. Partway across, they encounter the Foghewn Augustus, a Level 48 unique Egel. Its drops include a Nopon Medal.
West of the bridge, the party discovers the Basverg Belfry. Are there any bats within? The party will find out later.
They skip travel to Riku's Workshop, Colony 9.

The party upgrades their weapons in the workshop. Matthew's Ouroboros Knuckles, A's Monado, Nikol's Variable Backpack, Glimmer's Wildfire Kithara, Shulk's Monado REX+, and Rex's Firelight Swords go up to rank VI. The Luminescent Laia Fins come from the Laias on Prison Island. The next round of upgrades require Testudo Shoulder Guns.
The party skip travels to the Colony 9 Camp. After they register a Black Mountains Collectopaedia entry, they save. There are some quests to work on, so they may do so next time.
