Recap: Carrying out the Solaris invasion plan, Siebzehn penetrates the Solaris gate, allowing Fei, Elly, and Citan to infiltrate the city. The others leave with Siebzehn to try to avoid attracting too much more attention.

Gravity in Solaris works differently from outside, causing the newcomers some confusion. Fei gets separated from Elly and Citan, ending up in F block, the 3rd class citizen residential area. He witnesses a civilian causing a ruckus and being dropped off the edge by a security robot. Trying to remain unnoticed, he bumps into a man named Samson who apparently recognizes him from the martial arts tournament in Bledavik. Samson has a plan to sneak past the nearby guard tower and make his way toward the naval port in a bid to escape Solaris entirely, and invites Fei to come along with him.

Fei and Elly manage to find each other again, though Citan's location remains unknown. The two of them go along with Samson, reaching a security checkpoint where Samson's fake ID ends up getting him killed. Somehow, Elly's ID still works even after having deserted Gebler, and Fei is able to slip in alongside her.

The streets beyond the checkpoint are abuzz about an upcoming dedication where Emperor Cain will address the people in person. Fei and Elly manage to obtain tickets, and join the crowd just as Cain appears. Cain tells the citizens that the destruction of the gate was planned long ago, and that the door to Mahanon, the place where god rests, has been opened. Krelian shows up, and an old memory surfaces in Fei of having seen him long ago. Krelian announces that the invading surface dwellers have been caught, showing a display of a captured Billy, Rico, Bart, Emeralda, and Chu-Chu, and that they will be executed in two days' time.

Fei raises his voice enough to attract attention from the city guards, and he and Elly escape through a nearby underground tunnel. They end up at Elly's home, which is a giant mansion in the 1st class citizen block. Fei meets Elly's mother, Medena, who bears little resemblance to her. Elly makes an excuse and leaves the situation before too many questions can be asked, and heads toward a computer terminal where they may be able to find out where their friends are being held.
