"Rocket Knight Adventures" takes place in the land of Zephyrus, ruled by the watchful eye of the King, El Zephyrus. Assisting the King are his elite group of warriors called the Rocket Knights, whose leader, Sparkster, is considered the greatest Knight they've ever had. Sparkster was trained at a young age by the Mifune Sanjulo, former leader of the Rocket Knights and a friend of King Zephyrus who had adopted Sparkster.
The kingdom, however has been invaded by the Devotindos Empire, a nefarious pig tribe ruled by their demented Emperor, Devilgus Devotindos. Devotindos's goal is to steal and retrieve the Key to his abandoned starship, the Pig Star, which is capable of destroying entire planets. He is aided by a rogue Rocket Knight, Axel Gear, who shares an intense and personal rivalry with Sparkster.
Taking advantage of his knowledge of the Rocket Knights, Axel invades the Zephyrus castle and kidnaps Zephyrus's daughter, Princess Sherry. She is the only one who knows the location of the Key to the Pig Star. Receiving the emergency distress call, Sparkster arms himself with his Rocket armor, jetpack and sword, and sets off to the castle to stop the Empire from destroying the planet.
