Xin Plays: Dread X Collection (PC): Part 2: Hand of Doom/Summer Night
So after the lackluster start to this, we head straight to some of the good ones. One of em from a developer you'll see in... i think every single Dread X related thing so far. And the other? Well, if you even follow indie games to any degree, i'd be surprised if you've never heard of this guy before. And you'll probably see BOTH of their names together in some works, cause there may be a partnership with em too.
Hand of Doom: This is personally my favourite of all 10 of these. I love the idea behind it, i love the look of it, i enjoy how well it does this sort of old school DOS/Doom/Wolfenstein look to it. The idea behind the magic and the spells is fantastic and done well to being fun and interesting. It may not be scary, but it gives me the old school feels of how horror games on the DOS days looked and felt like and its charming. There's some easter egg spells too appearently, but i just wanted to focus on what the game does tell you, including the one that you had to figure out from what someone says (the speed up one). I truly wish this gets looked into again and turned into a full game, because it really is a good game that is executed well in theme and gameplay and i think there's many ways to expand on this too.
Summer Night: While i find this to be good, i honestly find this to be the lesser of this developer's work. That's not a dig at the guy, that's just me saying that this dude has AMAZING work behind his name and this game is just alright to me in comparison. It is very faithful to the little LCD games you'd get from a mcdonalds, game and watch or tiger electronic and i really don't have any complaints on it, its solidly faithful while adding a spooky factor to it. The ending bit is the one bit that really matters on how the game ends, and even then the endings are eh and the final bit is also eh. But its a fun little game still. The one downside i can give for the LCD game is that it is a bit difficult to really react to things like the stars in corners or to the moon. The minor downside is that there is no endless mode to try and get a big high score. Still one of the best in the set, not a shock why many like this one so much from the collection.
