You play as Oolong, a young martial artist out to prove his skills in a series of one-on-one battles against some of the most dangerous fighters in the world. Each opponent has their own unique weapon, fighting style, and movement patterns—requiring you to adapt your timing and strategy with every match.
Originally an arcade hit from Konami in 1985, the NES version of Yie Ar Kung-Fu brought the fast-paced martial arts action home. While simplified compared to the arcade, it retains the core gameplay: you have punches and kicks at different heights, the ability to duck or jump over attacks, and a stamina meter for each fighter.
Often cited as one of the earliest one-on-one fighting games to inspire later classics like Street Fighter, Yie Ar Kung-Fu stands out for its colorful characters, smooth animation, and demanding reflex-based combat.
Fun fact: The game’s title, “Yie Ar Kung-Fu,” was meant to evoke Chinese martial arts but is actually a stylized, pseudo-English phrase created by Konami’s marketing team.
No cheats were used during the recording of this video, nor is this intended to be a speedrun of any sort.
