Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a 2D side-scrolling platformer game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. It is the sequel to Super Mario World and is available on Super Nintendo, Nintendo Switch, and Game Boy Advance.
In the game, players control Yoshi in run-and-jump gameplay, navigating between platforms and atop some enemies as they progress through increasingly difficult levels. Yoshi has two buttons for running and jumping, and he can absorb enemies with his long tongue. When his mouth is full, he can spit them out or swallow them to lay eggs, which can be used as a throwing weapon. Yoshi doesn't have a health bar, but if he takes damage, he loses control of Baby Mario, who floats in a bubble.
In the game, players must accompany Baby Mario through six worlds to reunite him with his brother Luigi, who has been kidnapped by Baby Bowser's henchmen. The game uses the Super FX chip, which gives graphics that appear to have been designed by hand.
The game is about eight hours long if players focus on the main objectives, but it can take around 17 hours to complete 100% of the game.
