YOUTUBE finally BROKE me... I give up... [yes, this is clickbait... what else would it be?]
I finally gave up. YouTube broke me. Should I also say "this is not clickbait" because I have some semantic spin on things that I only reveal after I get 15 seconds of retention time on the Watch Time of the video? I mean, the statement isn't a lie, but anyone trying to say they aren't clickbaiting with a title similar to this is lying. They know exactly why they did it: Because they understand that we're all just feeding a machine, who in turn is feeding the hungry consumers.
Specifically, YouTube data and algorithmic pressure demoralized me and drained me of the energy to be creative. Finding out how to get reach, in order to grow, became an obsession (maybe it'll still haunt me like old ghosts from a hidden war).
See, for a small YouTuber to even test if their material is "good enough", they need to reach people, but the Recommendation System AI uses audience trends to "push" potential new audiences to the Channel.
It's the Channel's responsibility to then produce content that aligns with the new viewer's interests, and is able to retain them long enough to send positive signals back to the YT AI, so that the AI can pick out other people with similar interests.
But... what if it seems like reach routinely fails to target the right audience? How does a Channel get a chance to retain anyone if they aren't sent anyone from the correct target audience? This is my story of frustration and a long-needed drive to not give a damn, and try to find the joy of producing content again, instead of chasing phantoms in a wasteland. Hope you all enjoy the video!
