YouTube launches ‘subs-only chat’ feature
YouTube has launched a subscribers-only chat feature for live streams.
The feature is currently only its Beta form and is “an experiment that’s only available to a small number of creators”, with the platform looking to let more creators participate in the future.
With subscribers-only chat, eligible creators will be able to set how long viewers will need to be subscribed for before they can type in the live stream. For example, they can set it to a minimum of a day or even up to a year or longer.
The feature can also be enabled/disabled before and during the livestream.
YouTube Global Head of Gaming Ryan ‘Fwiz’ Wyatt also teased more upcoming features for the platform when asked about “raiding” or gifted memberships.
He said: “we can't share anything at this time, but just know we hear our Creator community on their Live streaming feature requests and we're listening!! More to come.”
