Boss 7: Adeptos Dorman

Adol is taken to Dorman's secret island, where Dorman awaits in a chamber with multiple pedestals. The duplicitous merchant reveals that this island is the home of Ventus, the crystal of wind and the last crystal unaccounted for. Dorman's used the island as a site of experiments in alchemy, and he proceeds to place the crystals in their proper places to begin the Phantom City's restoration. Massea barges into the room, pleading for Dorman to not activate his device, but her pleas fall on deaf ears as Dorman goes ahead with his plans.

The device fails, however, and the water crystal explodes. Alga and Terra break into the room, taunting Dorman with the real water crystal that they kept when taken captive. Out of manpower and options, Dorman channels his own alchemy to crush those who foolishly oppose him.

This is a fairly similar boss to Nygfinicus, but it comes with a lot more tools and thus a few more things to look out for. His first phase is more of a toned down Nygfinicus, having two "hands" which fire laser three times before the main body attacks. The nearest hand is the one that typically attacks, but the far hand can shoot at you instead. The lasers come at you in straight lines, making them easy to block, but they are pretty quick. If you're at a bad angle then it's possible to get hit trying to block, but it's not a big issue if you limit your movement.

The hands have a deceptive hitbox that extends a little below their shadow, and they back away when attacked, so spacing can be an issue. Like Nygfinicus, they also regenerate when taken out. After three attacks from them, Dorman's body floats down to shoot an orange or purple blast. The orange simply deals blockable damage, but the purple aims for the platform below Adol and destroys it similar to Dark Fact. Falling down isn't instant death, but it does a decent chunk of damage and the square remains destroyed for the rest of the battle, so it brings up the issue of staying close to attack the body versus moving away so the area around the body isn't all holes later in the fight.

In the second phase, the hands shoot a pattern of three lasers, but can be permanently defeated. Once they are, Dorman's body continues its previous attacks, as well as possibly shooting a pattern of bats from its mouths followed by energy discs or a laser from each mouth. The bats are simple enough, but the lasers can attack from two directions if you aren't careful. The best way I found to deal with them was to stand at the top of the arena and block one of them, the pushback moving you out of the path of the other.

Again, like most fights it becomes doable when you realize what Dorman can do and how to deal with them. Typically in these games "dealing with" a boss' attacks can be difficult, but here it's not too bad.

With Dorman defeated, Captain Rizze pities the merchant for losing control but quickly shifts her focus to obtaining the real water crystal, still using Niena as hostage. Rizze's three lieutenants arrive, and Karion explains how the removal of the Lumen Crystal three years earlier weakened the seal on Kefin enough for them to return. With the crystals in hand, the seal has been completely broken, allowing them to begin restoring the Phantom City of Kefin.

Rizze remarks that following them is impossible as the Gates of Kefin require a Royal Medallion; after Rizze and her lieutenants make their escape, Massea reveals the whereabouts of a Gate of Kefin at the desert oasis and her own Royal Medallion that's been passed down through her family. With their next goal in mind, Adol, Massea, and the Iburs begin their escape from the island's chambers. As the catacombs begin to collapse Adol and Terra get separated from the group, but despite Terra's preconceived notions of men instilled in her by her own family, she eventually trusts him enough to escape the island together. Alga and her sons are grateful to Adol upon their return to Niena's shop, and the group makes plans to set out for the oasis ruins.
