0:00 Hurasam
In the Zaardun areas, native magic users are considered tainted because they tend to lose control of their powers. This town is moderate enough to only exile their mages. This is the main reason Valdraek is so reluctant to return, since he was already exiled for revealing his magic.
6:27 Zaardun Highlands
10:10 Tarim
Unlike the previous town, this one executes the tainted, since the chief is not thinking rationally after his exiled son, Isurin, supposedly died. He seems to believe executing them is a mercy.
Enter the sweathouse (a two door building with the left side blocked) last, since it will continue the story the moment you enter. You can return after the next boss though, so it isn't too fatal if you continue the story too early.
Valdraek stops the villagers from executing an afflicted person, but this blows our cover and keeps us from entering the town. Our next step is to go to Exile's Way to meet Saarinen, Valdraek's mentor.
18:10 Exile's Way
After the save book, you'll find Isurin, who not only survived but learned how to control his magic while training under Saarinen. Unfortunately, he's pissed that Valdraek abandoned his duty of slaying Azcol back then and challenges the party to a fight.
23:06 Boss: Isurin
He can use Valdraek's moves, but he doesn't have to activate elemental buffs first, which is unfair. Maybe he really is more worthy as a student? Personally, I think the game should have made this a duel between Valdraek and Isurin.
24:17 Fulfilling the Prophecy
Saarinen tells Isurin to let us through. At the master's house, we learn that Valdraek abandoned his duty after failing to save his family from a Kaihul attack and being rejected by the villagers he managed to save. Saarinen states that the curse is getting worse and that eventually, every plainsmen will succumb to their innate unstable magic. The only way to solve this is to use Olto's Scepter, so it's a good thing we already killed Azcol and took the scepter.
At Kuruk, Valdraek uses the scepter to purify the water, ending the curse once and for all. While in Kuruk, talk to Chief Gromm to learn how much of a troublemaker Bruger was.
I had enough Celestium to get Grimbane the Ender, the green weapon for Belkas. It has a nice accuracy bonus and it gives him Full Sunder.
43:33 Desert of Tenat
When you enter, you see a ghostly man walk north, and you need to follow him. The looping maps can be difficult to navigate and there are some shards and unique gear in the area. Eventually, you'll see an oasis with a not-so-ghostly man, who is a member of Olto's tribe.
46:38 Tiezal
Turns out there was a civilization at the base of this Soravendomas Tree. The soothsayer will talk about Olto, who was one of the First Men, but was slain by his brother, Azcol.
We then get a flashback showing the Gauf before they turned evil. Azcol and Olto leave Pardoxus while leading a group of like-minded mortals because they believe they are no longer safe due to the fall of the Red Star. They find that the land outside Pardoxus is dying, which could bode poorly for the mortals.
Unfortunately, Maultor shows up and uses a mind spell to send most likely false visions of elven atrocities into Azcol's mind. Azcol eventually wakes up completely brainwashed into believing Maultor's lies about Malviticus being the one true god and how the First Men must purge the world of "evil." Azcol then kills Olto for disagreeing with him. Fortunately, the return of the scepter/branch allows Olto to speak to us from within the tree.
Also, Olto's portrait looks a lot like Saarinen's portrait. Same person? Reused design? Who knows? Saarinen did seem slightly sad that we killed Azcol...
We then get a flashback showing Arthur Greyhem and his crew, before he defected from Validus. We also have to play with them, but their equipment setup is not optimized at all.
