So... I realized a few hours after recording that in the Desert Palace, the green rocks at the midpoint are blocking the entrance to part 2, not the exit to part 1. I can easily grab the item up on the ledge without a trip into the Dark World. I'll probably start next episode like that.

Still excited for where this is going, but not going to require an alternative route into that dungeon.

Edit: Other things that occurred to me are that I might be able to get into Zora's Domain with one of the "Zora Waterways"(whirlpools), and that the hammer alone might not provide a path to the Dark World since I think you have to lift a light green rock that's actually over the portal in each case.
