♫ZONE B (Chip 'n Dale RR) SNES Arrangement - NintendoComplete
This is an arrangement of the theme for Zone B from Capcom's 1990 NES game Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, originally composed by Harumi Fujita. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch-model SNES console.
Yup, it's the kitchen level song!
The Chip 'n Dale soundtrack is flippin' amazing if you ask me. The songs run the gauntlet through such a huge range of styles on such limited hardware, and they're all on point. The percussion especially on this track always impressed me with its random squonks from the noise channel that somehow manage to recognizably mimic a jazz drum kit's cymbals. At least that's what I think they are, since the song has always made me think of a piece for a jazz ensemble or a 40s era big band.
Going with that idea took me pretty far out of my comfort zone since arranging it didn't call for any blaring synthesizers, gated drums, or orchestra hits. It was a lot of fun to try out something a bit closer to "realistic" sounding, and I was so happy with how well the piano samples and that clarinet solo worked out! :) (And I had to laugh once I'd finished and realized how much it sounds like the NES Monopoly theme.)
Hope you like it, and thanks for listening!
