Your Main Character is the most important choice in game, and best tip is being informed on what these character can do and functionality.
Your main character will be no different from and other follower you pick up thats same class as you are and with a party of 4 you want your main to have a good ability your gonna need throughout the game cuz you can't replace it.
With 5-6 class abilities to open up pathways and 5 major debuffs to heal while resting you might want a class that can do both cuz making potions can be a chore and running back and forth to replace a team member to open a pathway sucks with no fast travel.
I'll go threw the pro's and con's of each class and how useful they can be and recommend a party or 2 to play with.
