Akara is named after the Indonesian words “akar”, meaning root or vine, and “acara”, meaning ritual or performance. Akara is a symphony for the post-digital age, a mystical, ritual music, the songs of luminous extra-dimensional beings with melodies and words at once new and familiar, a strange and beautiful dream, a dance-floor journey into another world, The World Beyond. Independent of dance music trends without being unaware of them, Akara combines fragments of Baroque and Medieval music, 20th century minimalism, Indian classical, and gamelan with psy dub, glitch-hop, dubstep, and downtempo grooves. Akara is created and curated by Joshua Penman, an award-winning composer, working closely with a small classical orchestra of top-notch players (full credits for this album are available on Bandcamp).
