With comic book movies going from a risky proposition in 1989 when Batman soared at the box office to the highest grossing movies of all time, there’s enough superheroing going around. That means that there are actors who have managed to play both DC characters and Marvel characters. Sometimes it’s within the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the competing DC Extended Universe, and some of them made their choice between Marvel and DC before the shared universe became all the rage. Some of them, like Josh Brolin, have been able to take advantage of split rights to be in three different superhero movies. Avengers have played DC characters, Asgardians have have become superheroes with Greek origins like Shazam. Thor’s girlfriend Jane Foster spent time in the V for Vendetta dystopia as Evie, Ryan Reynolds has found failure, more failure, and then success as Deadpool, Green Lantern, and then Deadpool again. Controversial Batman casting has had a past as controversial Daredevil casting. Actors like Hugo Weaving seem to be collecting franchise roles like they’re souvenirs, managing to appear as an anti-hero of a fascist dystopia and then as a fascist mad scientist in Captain America: The First Avenger. Whether they started in Marvel or DC no part is too big or too small to find out if the actor made a better showing in DC or Marvel. Truth is we watch them all, and the actors are all enjoyable. But for fun, let’s breakdown where they made the best fit.
