Our world is governed by all forms of unseen happenings that are hard to fathom. Even the best historians don't seem to wrap their heads around these intrigues. If you think you can pull a Sherlock Holmes stunt on any of these mysteries, get in here, and let's get started. Here are the ten amazing world mysteries that need answers!
10. Why we sleep
It sounds funny that I sleep every night, but scientists have sleepless nights unraveling why we sleep. It may seem like straightforward research, but there have been countless attempts to find why humans need to sleep every night. So far, there's been no definitive answer, but theories and counter theories abound. The simplest of them is that sleep is energy-saving because the body rests from all kinds of physical activity. This means that animals that use lots of energy wouldn't survive without sleep.
Another popular theory about sleep is that it purges our brain from unnecessary information. Therefore, this natural phenomenon is the price we pay for learning. Research shows that sleep permits strong neural connections we form during learning to become compatible with the old information we have in our heads. While we know the benefits it has on our memory, no one has proven if it is necessary for the process to work. The bottom line is that we need to sleep to keep our body active, but why does our brain insist on that? Are there alternatives we are yet to explore?

9. Origin of the universe
You probably think that this one is a done deal, and we shouldn't be talking about the origin of the universe. Well, I thought so too until I realized we had a long way to go. The best-known explanation for the universe's beginning is the Big Bang theory, where the universe expanded from a hot and dense singularity about 13.8 billion years ago. This, however, is usually misinterpreted. The Big Bang happened simultaneously across the galaxy and wasn't an explosion in space but of space.
It is still unclear what caused it, although scientists claim to be inching closer to the truth. Researchers are still wondering the exact process that caused the bang and the forces at play during the universe's earliest days. To fully grasp everything about the universe's existence, we need to understand the laws of physics governing matter and antimatter. This is problematic because the standard model of particle physics doesn't account for most of the matter the Big Bang produced.

8. Why is ASMR a thing?
Let's deviate a bit from the universe and talk about something that affects us personally. You might have seen several YouTube videos narrated in hush tones accompanied by a soft sound similar to the faint hum a clipper makes on the hair. This creates a sensation of a gentle scalp massage, and for others, it is simply amazing. 90% of the world's population experience the same feeling when exposed to autonomous sensory meridian response, ASMR.
Why doesn't this work for the remaining 10%? No one knows! This may not be the greatest mystery looking for answers, but it is a relatively new development birthed by technology. Studies show that the brain region that lights up on an fMRI is different from the brains that experience ASMR and those that don't. The most straightforward explanation for this phenomenon is that ASMR activates the brain regions used during social bonding, meaning that only extroverts may feel its effects. Does that mean that only 10% of the world's population are introverts? I doubt it! This explanation is faulty.

7. Where is the alien life?
Our universe is billions of years old and boasts billions of stars and diverse planetary systems. Considering the age, it is baffling to realize that scientists haven't found concrete signs of intelligent life outside earth. Although there have been sketchy pieces of evidence suggesting the existence of extraterrestrials, where are they? Astronomers and physicists came up with the great filter theory suggesting that there's an evolutionary barrier that stops civilization from advancing to the point of making contact.
Another school of thought claims that intelligent life remains hidden because there are consequences we are unaware of. Let's just say this is an excuse for not finding it. Life is complicated, but in reality, it exists where there is heat, organic compounds, and energy. Despite several trips to the moon, it is unclear when we will be done with this investigation. If intelligent life is trying to reach out to us, scientists should distinguish
