Crocodiles are the largest living reptiles on our planet. These formidable beasts grow to impressive lengths and astounding weight. The average crocodile is enough to send chills down your spine; how much more those with record-breaking sizes. Stay tuned and watch out for the shocker on number one!
10. Tawi-Tawi
On September 9, 2017, anglers caught a 16 feet long saltwater crocodile in Tawi-Tawi, an island in the Philippines. Locals say the fishermen spotted the monster the day before but thought it was a wooden log and didn't make any noise about it. However, they were astonished to see it move. After seeing it was a living creature, they approached the officials to report the incident. Several men were involved in capturing the animal since it proved to be very aggressive.
It wrecked a boat and damaged all the fishing nets involved in the operation. Eventually, the authorities were able to capture it and keep it under the care of the municipal government. It is a crime to kill a crocodile in the Philippines as the fine could go as high as $2000 plus six years imprisonment. The operation didn't record any loss of life thanks to the ingenuity of the locals.

9. Matara and Jaws III
Two crocodiles jostle for the ninth position here. On November 7, 2016, a colossal crocodile measuring over 17 feet long was captured in Matara, Sri Lanka. It had been roaming around until it was stuck in a canal leading off the Nilwala river. Luckily, the giant reptile was released back to its habitat by the officials with the help of the locals. The people proved to the world how much they love animals, particularly giant crocodiles like this one.
As for Jaws III, he is a huge water crocodile living in the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology, a reptile zoo, and herpetology research station. The station was founded by Romulus Whitaker and his wife, Zai Whitaker. The behemoth measures 17 feet long and weighs over a ton. It is believed to be the biggest crocodile to be held in captivity in southern Asia. He attracts thousands of visitors to the park yearly as tourists come from different countries to catch a glimpse of the wonder. Unfortunately, if you visit the park today, you won't see Jaws III because he's dead.

8. Gomek
Gomek is another monster crocodile that must be recognized here. It was a giant crocodile captured by George Craig in Papua New Guinea. Terri and Arthur Jones later purchased him in 1985 and kept him in Ocala, Florida, for five years. From there, he was sold to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in Florida. During his stay at the park, he wowed spectators with his incredible nutria-tossing abilities. To make his stay more remarkable, he was tolerant of people.
Feeders could go into their enclosure and move up to 1-meter close. Typically, it would be suicidal to get that close to any crocs, but Gomek didn't mind. Although feeders used long tongs to feed him, they considered him to be tame than most of its species. It turned out to be one of the favorite animals for people around the world. Gomek died of heart disease on March 6, 1997. As at the time he died, he measured 17.8 feet and weighed 850 kg. The Augustine Alligator farm estimates that the animal could be between 60 and 80 years old.

7. Cassius
Cassius is an Australian saltwater giant said to be one of the largest saltwater crocodiles held in captivity. As of 2011, it was the largest crocodile held in captivity, according to the Guinness World Records. The animal has been involved in vicious fights that made him lose his front left leg and the tip of his tail. This croc was captured in 1987 in the Finniss River, located in the Northern territory. Before the capture, it had attacked boats and caused nuisance at sea.
Cassius measures a whopping 17 feet and 11 inches long and is over 110 years old. It got its name from Cassius Clay, Mohammed Ali's given name. After this crocodile was captured, Mr. Craig spent 30 years with him even though it was risky. He admits that the crocodile would have eaten if the chance showed up, but thankfully, it never did. It was for the good of humans that Cassius was captured and kept in a safe enclosure. You know how it eventually plays out if they're left in the open.
