It is a fact that climate change and global warming are transforming our world, but this was not always the case. Fifty years ago, there was little data on the changes that the increase in temperature caused on the ice cap that covers certain places on Earth.
According to forecasts from Glacier National Park in Montana, since 1850, the number of massive glaciers in the park has decreased from 150 to 25, and it is estimated that they will have melted entirely by 2030.
However, the more ice that disappears, the more secrets and mysteries remain in the light. As if in a time capsule, the glaciers have preserved thousands of remains, objects, and animals in excellent conditions, bringing an entire piece of history to our days.
Today, we look at the creepiest, uncanny, and remarkable things found in ice. Want to know about these things and their effect on humans? Why not stay tuned as we begin from number 10…
Number 10: The Ancient Forest in Alaska
The glacier deposit has always been a place
that enjoyed the visits of many tourists all over the world who marveled at such a beautiful work of nature.
The Glacier became even more popular in 2012 when the gradual melting of the ice cover revealed enchanting blue ice caves beneath which a mysterious forest lay for about a thousand years. Well, you can thank global warming for that.
The research team led to the site dated some of the stomps and logs found to be about 2350 years old. But guess what? They had their roots and backs still very much intact with some of them in their upright position. Now, that's just so fantabulous - what extreme cold temperatures could do!
The researchers' best guess was that the trees were first covered with large amounts of gravel before the ice age did its work.
Anyway, that's how much information the reduced form of trees believed to be hemlocks and spruces could tell them. But the fact remains, ice is pretty good at making things last!

Number 9: Viking Sword on a mountain
In the year 2017, a reindeer hunter who goes by the name Einer Ambakk along with his two other friends uncovered yet another fantastic discovery ever to be frozen in ice and guess what that is - a Viking sword!
The hunters found this lone artifact upon a Norwegian mountain about 1640m above sea level wedged between two rocks on a spree.
The sword dated back to 850 AD, and we believed it became exposed due to climate change after a long time spent underneath its permafrost cover.
What such a treasured item was doing so high up baffled us, as well the team led to recovering the sword. You wouldn't leave your most treasured possession so unguarded, especially if you were a Viking.
The only explanation given was that the warrior who owned it must have met with a horrendous snowstorm that had him lost and probably misplaced his sword on the quest for survival. That's reasonable enough, don't you think?

Number 8: The Century Fruitcake
You wouldn't expect this to be on our list, at least not in a million years - a fruitcake preserved in ice for over a hundred years? Now, that's the spirit of ice!
Fruitcakes are well renowned for their ability to last for quite a while. Still, no one would have expected them to continue for a hundred years, not without an out-of-this-world preservative.
However, that's not the case with this elderly fruitcake recovered from one of the oldest buildings in Antarctica. Yes, that continent with the gold medal of being the coldest and driest of all.
Experts believed that the fruitcake belonged to Robert Scott, who happened to lead the doomed Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica in 1910, meaning that the cake has been there for roughly about 120 years. Oh, that'd look slimy!
But to our utmost surprise and soon to be yours, the only thing not left intact was the tin casing. Well, don't just stand there, applaud!
The cake, as claimed, smelled and looked edible, although no one has been bold enough to taste it. The team never made it back, but their snack sure did.
Now that's the true definition of long-lasting, and the freezing temperature of the ice in the region made sure of it!
Number 7: Infectious Pathogens in Siberia
This is that part where you shout OMG! Thousand-year-old diseases locked in ice, and guess what? They are waking up and might be planning a deadly come-back, one that the current global heat is making sure of.
