In 2009, horrorās biggest mommaās boy, Jason Voorhees, would slash his way back to the silver screen.
Letās take a look back at the film and go over 10 things you probably didnāt know about Friday The 13th.
#1: Adrienne King from the original film was asked if sheād be willing to make a cameo appearance. Then, a few days later, she was contacted and told that the studio didnāt want anyone to return from any of the original films.
#2: Jasonās longtime nemesis, Tommy Jarvis, was originally going to return for this movie. Obviously, this is one of those ideas that just didnāt make the final cut.
#3: Scout Taylor-Compton, most known for her portrayal of Laurie Strode in the Halloween remake, tried out for the role of Jenna, but lost out to Danielle Panabaker. Damn, she couldāve been, like, a remake scream queen.
#4: Jason is known for his sheer brutality, so you might be surprised to learn that Willa Fordās character, Chelsea, was originally meant to die in a very different way. Originally, after being stricken by the boat, Jason would watch from the shore line in plain sight. Chelsea would be too afraid to swim to shore and Jason would just wait her out. Eventually, sheād drown due to exhaustion.
#5: Producer Michael Bay became very upset with the film and ended up walking out during a screening of the film, saying that there was too much sex. Being that this is Michael Bay weāre talking about, itās a little hard to believe. Maybe he was subtly trolling the people who walk away from films for being too violent?
#6: The opening weekend was a massive success, raking in over $40 million at the box office. Which, at the time, was the biggest --ever-- opening weekend for a horror remake
#7: Both Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles were on hiatus from the wildly popular television show: Supernatural. During this time, they both worked on horror remakes of 80ās slasher films. Padalecki obviously worked on Friday The 13th, while Ackles worked on My Bloody Valentine 3D.
#8: As Paramount still owned rights related to the original Friday the 13th despite the franchise being in New Lineās hands, New Line and Platinum Dunes needed their blessing to use certain materials for Friday ā09ā¦ including the originalās title. Wanting to have their hands in the reboot, Paramount gave the other studios the go-ahead. This would be the first time Paramount had anything to do with the Friday The 13th franchise since 1989.
#9: Even though most people consider the film to be a remake, and it was promoted as such, youād be surprised to learn that technically, on paper, the film is classified as a sequel. Writer of the original film, Victor Miller, has stated that studios will do this as a way to save money, as the studio doesnāt have to shell out as many residuals for a sequel as they do a remake.
#10: Jenna wasnāt meant to die as early as she did in the final film, but her death would still be just as shocking. Originally, she makes it into the school bus with Clay and Whitney. Now that things arenāt quite as hectic, Jenna jokingly tells Clay that she hopes their next date goes better. At that point, Jason would show up and kill her with a fire extinguisher.
