30 Days of Night answers the age old question of what vampires would do if they were free to roam without the threat of day light being a factor. Well, let me give you a hint: if you’re a human, you’re freaking screwed. That being said, let’s take a look back at 30 Days of Night and go over 10 things you may have not known about this killer vampire movie!

#1: A linguistic professor was hired to create the unique language the vampires speak in the film.

#2: Even though most of the movie takes place at night, you’d be surprised to learn that most of the film was shot in the daylight and color graded to make the scenes look like it was at night.

#3: Originally, Evil Dead director, Sam Raimi, was slated to direct the movie, but he ended up backing out in favor of producing the film.

#4: Writer Steve Niles pitched the idea for 30 Days Of Night to studios for years, but no one was interested. So, he decided to turn his concept into graphic novels. After the success of the novels, studios were interested in adapting the story into a feature film.

#5: Josh Hartnett was sick with mono for two weeks during the filming process.

#6: Some prints of the film were shipped to studios employing the fake title of “Red impression.”

#7: The film was shot in New Zealand and as a result, nearly half of the cast is Kiwi or Australian.

#8: Josh Hartnett performed all of his own stunts.

#9: Even though they’re not mentioned through-out the film; all of the vampires actually have names, which appear in the credits.

#10: In the comic book, the head vampire travels to Barrow, but with the intentions of stopping the other vampires from attacking the town, as he believes an attack of that magnitude would expose the existence of vampires.
