Whether you love it or hate it, Jason X is a unique film, no matter how you slice it. Jasonās managed to make his escape from hell, even though the previous film was meant to be *ahem* The Final Friday. Before Jason would be able to duke it out with his rival Freddy Krueger, heād have to hack his way through space. Letās take a look back at the movie and go over 10 things you probably didnāt know.about Jason X
#1: The scene in which thereās a virtual rendering of Crystal Lake in the 80ās in an attempt to trick Jason was originally going to be much more detailed. In addition to the two female campers, there were going to be topless women playing volleyball. Jasonās mother, Pamela Voorhees was also going to make an appearance. Jason would attack and kill his own mother, showing that heās now Evil times freakinā 10, since heās Uber Jason.
Given her response to the idea of a cameo in Jason Goes to Hell, it comes as no surprise that Betsy Palmer turned down the offer, so the idea was trashed.
#2: The Friday The 13th films are notorious for being hacked and slashed, pun only barely intended, so they can achieve an R-rating from the MPAA. But believe it or not, Jason X is the least cut film in the franchise.
#3: Jason in space wasnāt the only scenario thought of for the 10th installment in the franchise. There were numerous ideas floating around, such as Jason in the snow, Jason in Africa, Jason at the North Pole, Jason in a submarine, and Jason at a NASCAR event... and those were all actually brought up, by actual studio players. Really.
#4: Jason X isnāt the first time Jasonās been to space. Actually, in 1995, MADtv aired a faux trailer for āApollo the 13th: Jason Takes NASA.ā The trailer is a cross-parody of Friday The 13th films and Apollo 13. Essentially, NASA decided to launch Apollo 13, but didnāt check their calendar first, as theyāre doing it on a Friday the 13th. Jason gets on board, and you can pretty much guess where things go from there.
#5: Sadly, Jason X is a sequel that was greenlit by franchise creator, Sean Cunningham, as nothing more than a marketing tool to keep Jason Voorhees fresh in the mind of movie-goers while waiting for Freddy V.S. Jason to go into production.
#6: The release date for Jason X was pushed back numerous times, leaving the movie shelved. During this time, bootleggers were actually able to obtain various rough cuts of the movie and see it long before its theatrical release. Some believe that this could be the reason why the movie performed so poorly at the box office.
#7: The frozen face smash death scene is one of the most infamous kills in the entire franchise. So infamous, in fact, that the Mythbusters TV show tested the concept on their show with ballistic gel and pigsā heads. To the disappointment of horror fans, though to the relief of livestock everywhere, the heads did not fully shatter
#8: This is the first film in the franchise to rely on CGI for death scenes.
#9: Director Jim Isaac wanted the acting in Jason X to quote āBlow every other Friday movie out of the water.ā With several rewrites having taken place between this statement and the final product, weāll let you be the judge on that.
#10: Jason X does pay homage to the original film, but in a very lowkey way. In Jason X, youāll undoubtedly notice that the characters have some very odd namesā¦ which are mostly related to online gaming handles used by the filmmakersā friends- except for one of the professorās students: Adrienne. You know, the poor girl who got her face frozen and then smashed? Well, her name is inspired by actress Adrienne King, the woman who played Alice in the original Friday The 13th.
Well, thatās it for things you probably didnāt know about Jason X. While we canāt deny the hokeyness that goes hand-in-hand with the idea of a slasher aboard a spaceship, with the release of this film, and epic battle that had been teased for years would soon come to fruition.
