Leatherface was ready to return to the silver screen with the third installment of the franchise, but this time he would have to do it without series creator, Tobe Hooper, who’d directed the past two films.

Now, let’s take a look back at Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and go over 10 things you might have not known about the movie.

#1: Both Peter Jackson and Tom Savini were offered to Direct the film, but they both turned the opportunity down.

#2: Director Jeff Burr was actually fired early on in the production, but the studio wasn’t able to find a replacement for him, so they gave him his job back.

#3: Kane Hodder, most known for his role as Jason Voorhees in the Friday The 13th films, actually doubled for R.A. Mihailoff in some scenes, taking on the role of Leatherface.

#4: Caroline Williams, the actress who played Stretch in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, does reprise her role albeit very briefly. If you look closely, you can see she’s ones of the news reporters at the body pit. Director Jeff Burr wanted to include her in the movie, as he believes that after the events of part 2, Stretch would become a reporter, enabling her to hunt down Leatherface.

#5: The iconic chainsaw Leatherface is gifted weighs a massive 80lbs.

#6: The infamous trailer for the film was shown to audiences before production had even began.

#7: Gunnar Hansen was considered to reprise his role as Leatherface. However, he wanted more money than the studio was willing to pay, so they went with R.A. Mihailoff.

#8: In the original cut, Ken Foree’s character, Benny, dies with Leatherface during their swamp fight. However, test audiences enjoyed Ken Foree’s character so much that New Line decided to go back and shoot a different ending for the film before it was released. They did all of this unbeknownst to Director Jeff Burr, who saw this ending for the first time when he saw the movie in theaters.

#9: The movie was originally much gorier, so a ton of stuff had to be cut out for the film to get an R-rating from the MPAA. In total, the film was submitted to the MPAA 11 times before it was able to secure the R-rating. Some the axed scenes were from the film’s original negative -- so while there exists an unrated cut on DVD, which also includes several extra deleted scenes -- there are some moments we can only assume are lost forever to the annals of history.

#10: The house in the film was located less than a mile away from Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. Director Jeff Burr says that they actually picked up audio from the park while shooting and if you listen closely, you can actually hear screams from people riding the rollercoasters at the park.
