Sometimes, the circus is the best place to find challenges, and all sorts of stunts that many people in the world would consider weird and terrifying. In those days, circus performers had done many things that sounded unimaginable. But those guys were ready to push themselves beyond limits that could break a fragile mind. Many among them even held a world record for doing bizarre things that were literally termed," unspeakable phenomena." In today's video, we'll be introducing you to 10 of the weirdest circus phenomena ever recorded in history. Just prepare to be amazed!

Number 10: Alar, the Human Arrow

If shooting an ordinary stick from a bow is tough enough, how much more will it take to shoot a man instead of an arrow? To Mary Jones aka Pansy Zedora, it's no big deal at all as she did it many times over. And to our dangerous surprise like her audience at the time, she didn't fly off as the shooter, but as the arrow itself. Strapped onto a crossbow twice the size of a man, Zendora was shot through a paper target 40 feet away from the shooting point. But that's not all. As she pierced through the prepared paper hole on the other side, another man was waiting to catch her.

This man, however, was also not stationed in the normal. Instead, he strapped his leg onto a trapeze to hang upside down. But somehow, he managed to catch Zedora skillfully and whisked her up to safety. And all that was done in 1896 at a particular circus show later dubbed, "Alar, the Human Arrow." It was a daring attempt, but the timing was everything.

Number 9: The Iron-Jawed Man

If you're a geek of the Guinness Book of world record , you've probably heard of a man named Thomas Blackthorne - the only person in the world to lift for 5 seconds 11 kilos with his mere tongue. And atop that, he did it without getting hurt. But going down the memory lane, he's not the first man to ever try it. That practice of lifting weights with tongue dates back to the golden days of the circus. But since we can't talk about everyone on this list, we feature the most popular and probably the most spectacular among them - Signor Lawanda or better still, the iron-jawed man.

Born to a family of miners in Bethlehem and raised in a circus in Vermont, Lawanda was the major attraction in the many circuses he worked for. He could lift a horse with his mere jaw and bite a silver coin in half. But his most laudable feat, great enough as one of the weirdest circus phenomena on this list is the part where he lifted two men atop a water-filled barrel merely with his teeth.

Number 8: The Liondrome

Strange things happen in the circus with many of them extremely terrifying. But some circus performers believed that the show's even incomplete without the touch of a wild predator like lions. So, they stepped up the show by introducing the lion drome! Also known as the wall of death, the lion drome consisted of a large cylinder with a small circular track for motorcycles and mini-cars to ride along. Shaped like a barrel, the lion drome confined riders to run around the vertical wall, performing different styles of thrilling stunts.
After some time into the show, lions are released into the drome to charge after the speeding vehicles. Spectators watch as the lions swat at the riders, paw at them, and even try to maul them with their massive jaws. Other riders would even train lions to sit beside them during their races, leaving the audience to cackle at the jumpscares. But as you would expect of such dangerous sideshows, things don't always go as planned. Fatal cases were reported on numerous occasions where expert riders got injured either by the lions or by accidents retained from falling off track.

Number 7: The Queen of Fire Eaters

Death Eater is what we know in Harry Potter. But how about Fire eaters? Believe it or not, those fire magicians are real. Though, we can't say if many of them are legit. But if you've been to a circus before, you would have come across one or two of them, breathing fires like dragons. Many even go as far as eating burning iron or walking barefooted over hot charcoals to advertise themselves as professionals. But professional or not, none could match "Josephine Girardelli" - the only fire-eater to amaze a stadium to such extents that she was officially named "the queen of all fire eaters."
