Mandelbulb3D is a free software programme that generates 3D fractals. I’ve been exploring what you can do with it lately and have made a couple of videos where I’ve used a mix of standard and mutated formulae to generate animations that zoom or revolve the camera around the various shapes. It’s still very basic stuff that I’m doing though – I’ve only begun to scratch the surface of the features you can use – and I want to learn how to do something more advanced in the future. To that end, I’ve been exploring the standard formulae that you can select from the menu. Instead of animating them, which takes a lot of PC time, I’ve taken still images of my favourites in order that I can use them as reference for anything I might do with the programme in the future. These being 3D images, I’ve played around with all of these shapes from various angles and selected the camera positions I liked best. Hopefully it makes for a good video that some other people might watch and enjoy as well.
