I zipped through his Command Training in record time, with only one small hitch, a multi-part move with a funky input that had me stuck for a couple minutes--but that's hardly worth mentioning compared to what I've run into with other characters. ; )

But I wonder if that ease of his moves leads to trouble; his moves are almost all pretty easy to do (so much so I don't have any particular ones to single out), and pretty easy to hit with, and win with--to a point. But maybe, at least for the way I'm able to use them, there isn't enough variety, or enough ways to mix the opponent up, and get past a tough defense; in any case, while I zipped through the beginning ranks to 1st dan in about an hour, in my previous session with him in VF4 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALb-FIBtge0 ), once I hit 1st dan, it became a very different story--which is to say, I started getting roasted, hard. (Hard roasted? Oh well never mind. : p)

And that continued here--I actually got demoted! : o Which can happen once you step into the dan ranks; I just went on a long enough losing streak, and, well, justifiably came up for demotion. : P

And it wasn't even a case of me messing around with too many advanced moves or something--'cause he doesn't really have those! I just couldn't make headway against the tougher opponents.

Quite possibly this will happen to me with the other characters I'm trying to play in 4 as well--Aoi, Shun, Vanessa...--but at least with them I feel like I have a lot more to learn, and thus, space to improve; with Lion, though, I don't feel that same capacity. Yes, I could get *way* better at timing, execution and strategy with him (or at least, a competent person could : o), and I *should* be able to get to some higher ranks with practice, but I'm not particularly excited about his moves (his motorcycle helmet though, which you can win in different colors from other Lions in Kumite, is super boss!), and would rather put that time into a character I'm more into.

It occurs to me that the characters I've dropped since I started this second pass--command trainings--are the especially obnoxious & noisy ones: Jacky, Lau (those screams), and now Lion. So maybe that's what's really behind this, I dunno. : o

I put the disgrace to good use in one way, at least: I was able to confirm that I could still use Lion's "VF1" model, which unlocks at 1st dan, even after demotion to 1st kyu. So, all you lose is your pride. : P (Well, and progress toward unlocking colors, etc that may unlock at even higher ranks you haven't reached yet.)
