Gameplay of the boss Boss Kitana in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Boss Kitana’s moves:
• Square: Spiral Kick
• Triangle: Fan Twirl
• Circle: Knock-Back Attack
• R1+Square: [Same as Square]
• R1+Triangle: [Same as Triangle]
• R1+Circle: [Same as Circle]
• Square+Triangle: Fan Throw
• Triangle+Circle: Fan Lift
• Circle+Square: Square Dash
My girl’s back, and this time she’s ready to save the world. Or not, because unfortunately her boss form sucks. She has six attacks, and they all feel very botched when playing as her. The reason for this, presumably, is because her boss fight in the game is a triple boss-fight along with Jade and Mileena, and they had to make it so that she wasn’t too overpowered so as to not make the fight unfair. This makes perfect sense of course, but it leaves Boss Kitana feeling surprisingly bad to play as. His spiral kick auto-combo is not only weak but often blocked by enemies, her knock-back attack is too delayed, and his special moves are pretty useless; the fan throw deals minimal damage, the square dash is useless because the enemies don’t jump, and the fan lift is beyond useless because by the time it’s over, there’s not enough time for Kitana to follow up with another attack! It’s really just there so Mileena or Jade can get a free hit on the player, which makes sense in the context of the boss fight, but it feels really weird otherwise.
Boss Kitana is incredibly weak, and really no fun to play as. Even defeating three enemies with her was awful, as the only viable attack of hers is her Fan Twirl as it attacks in an Area of Effect and can be followed-up infinitely if you’re skilled enough. However, given the low amount of damage it deals, and the difficulty of actually comboing with it, trying this soon becomes a test of patience more than anything else. You could try a playthrough with her, but I can say upfront that it would probably be really miserable. The only saving graces are that her design is brilliant, and her playable variant more than makes up for this one.
Next up, the other hidden green ninja.
