#1158 Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (PS2) Bosses (3/15): Shang Tsung (MK2) gameplay
Gameplay of the boss MK2 Shang Tsung in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Shang Tsung’s moves:
• Square: Auto-combo
• Triangle: Double-kick
• Circle: Drain-grab
• R1+Square: Fireball
• R1+Triangle: Triple Fireball
• R1+Circle: Air Fireball
• Square+Triangle: Air Punch and Divekick
• Triangle+Circle: Fire Taunt (deals no damage)
• Circle+Square: Fire Launcher (hard to use. Can also potentially cause Shang to fall through the floor)
MK2 Shang Tsung is surprisingly good on the whole! The sub-sub-boss of the game, fought in a three-form boss fight with Kintaro and Shao Kahn as well, MK2 Shang Tsung always felt a little less intimidating to me than his MK1 version did, but that was probably due to him being knocked down a couple of pegs in the boss hierarchy. Still, he is surprisingly good here. His Auto-combo is really good, as is the triple fireball. His fire launcher would be useful were it not so inconsistent. It can, I’m not kidding, also cause him to fall through the floor at random times. He just slinks through the stage and then falls to his death below; it’s like something out of a Road-Runner cartoon. His best technique, unsurprisingly, is that drain-grab attack of his. It’s bloody brilliant though, allowing him to steal life from his opponents at will, making a playthrough with him really viable. And, of course, he’s also invincible during it, meaning he could just steal health over and over again to win if need be. Which, let’s face it, sounds exactly like something Shang Tsung would do.
On the whole, very impressed with Shang Tsung here. It would probably be slow process trying to do a playthrough as him, but I reckon it’s entirely doable.
Up next, MK1’s sub-boss gets another video.
