#1181 Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (PS2) Hidden Characters (4/6): Reptile gameplay
Gameplay of the hidden character Reptile in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Player Reptile is, like Baraka, a bit of an erratic character. He has a similar weird combo which just suddenly tops, and while he does have some juggles with his launching projectile and his slide move, they can be a bit difficult to pull off consistently without a decent amount of practice. Luckily, this is a beat-em-up, where you’d be using the same combos ad nauseum anyhow, but it does mean he has a bit of a learning curve compared to some of the other characters. Player Reptile is much better than his boss counterpart though, as you’d probably imagine by this point particularly as a result of that launching projectile which not only leaves opponent vulnerable to follow-up attacks, but deals a pretty respectable amount of damage in the process. That can then be followed-up with his slide attacks, or other combos, for some pretty decent damage. His aerial attacks a little odd; a short combo, an aerial attack which actually knock the opponent away instead of up, and also a ground pound. He of course also has his acid spit attack, though I didn’t personally find it too useful.
On the whole, Reptile’s pretty decent still; wholly playable of course, and one I’d like to try a playthrough with, though I suspect he’d be a bit more on the difficult side compared to the others. He lacks the invincibility and aerial projectile moves which his boss form had, but these are pretty useless in human hands so that hardly matters. A pretty cool inclusion on the whole, and it’s only a shame he isn’t normally playable in the main game.
Next up, the first of the two legitimately unlockable ninjas.
