#1180 Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (PS2) Hidden Characters (3/6): Baraka gameplay
Gameplay of the hidden character Baraka in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Player Baraka is better than his boss counterpart, but he’s still a bit on the erratic side. That makes sense considering who he is I suppose, but he still feels a bit weird compared to other regular characters. His combo ends really abruptly, although this from what I could tell was so you could then combo it into his scissor blade moves. His Air Launchers can actually knock the opponent out of range if you’re not careful, and his Square air attack is a sort of bizarre dive attack. His entire moveset seems based around leading into the Scissor Blades attack from what I could tell, which makes sense as it deals a ton of damage, but only works if you’re really close to the opponent. His projectile attack actually combines both the single and spreadshot versions which the boss had, as pressing it once will do a single shot, whereas doing it twice in succession will cause Baraka to jump into the air and fire a spreadshot at the ground.
Baraka here is a pretty good, though a bit more limited compared to Kitana and Johnny Cage I found. There’s definitely something to him, but it just does feel a little bit more erratic and off-putting than the other two; it would really take some getting used to during a playthrough. That said, I suspect a playthrough with him is still possible, if a bit more difficult than the others.
Next up, the original hidden ninja in a slightly more playable variant.
