The game is a massive download, weighing approximately 122GB, and the inability to preload it has caused some speculation and confusion among fans.
In a recent interview with itmeJP, Larian boss Swen Vincke expressed uncertainty about the preload situation, stating that he was unsure how it would be handled. However, it has now been confirmed that there will be no option to preload the game before its release date.
Larian announced the release time as 5 pm Gent time on August 3, with no opportunity for preloading. It's worth noting that early access save games will not be compatible with the full release, so players are encouraged to start fresh.
The lack of preloading is a disappointment, especially for players with slow or unreliable internet connections. The limitation appears to be related to Steam, as the game has been available in early access for nearly three years, making preloading unfeasible. GOG is also not offering preloads, which has added to the confusion.
Despite the inconvenience, most fans don't seem overly concerned and are eager to experience the game's full release. Baldur's Gate 3 will unlock at 8 am PT, 11 am ET, and 4 pm BST on August 3.
