1297 AD Historical Battle of Stirling Bridge | Midieval Total War Cinematic Battle
In 1296, John de Warenne, the 6th Earl of Surrey, emerged victorious over John Comyn, the Earl of Buchan, in the Battle of Dunbar. Subsequently, King John Balliol surrendered to King Edward I of England at Brechin on July 10th, leading to Scottish landholders acknowledging Edward's authority. The year 1297 saw Moray sparking a rebellion in northern Scotland, swiftly gaining control over Urquhart, Inverness, Elgin, Banff, and Aberdeen by late summer. In September, Wallace joined forces with Moray near Dundee, and together they advanced towards Stirling, a pivotal location described by Stuart Reid as "the key to Scotland." Meanwhile, Surrey and Cressingham had united in July and reached Stirling by September 9th, finding Moray and Wallace already established at Abbey Craig.
