1897: Shinobi III Genesis \\ Full playthrough - dubjump's revenge! (Steam ROM in Mednafen)
Noob playing through the Steam ROM of "Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master" for Genesis in the emulator Mednafen, on Easy / max "SHURIKINS" (it was "SHURIKENS" in Shinobi "II" aka "The Super Shinobi" / "Revenge of Shinobi") settings.
Couldn't find an infinite lives cheat compatible w/ Mednafen this time so it was just a lotta save scumming. Not as hard as the previous two Genesis Shinobis I suppose.

After Shadow Dancer with its hapless dog and fake lizard people was instantly forgettable, I guess Sega couldn't think of anything better to do than to bring back the stuff I hated worse from the first Genesis Shinobi game, like the two-ways-to-fail-it-so-it-doesn't-even-come-out-and-you-just-fall-to-your-death-again double jump and the teleport maze. Hit zones in boss fights, which seem to drag on forever, are nebulous as heck again, etc, etc, swim in the big sea of jank some more, yay.
The music isn't as memorable as Koshiro's in the first game, but better than the second Genesis Shinobi. The graphics are better.
Oh and now there's wall jumping. If I'd know we'd get to wall jumping I probably wouldn't have started playing these darn games. I hate wall jumping so bad. It's nearly the worst.
And you combine that with the finickiest faily double jump and throw it all in a teleport maze and HOO bOY you got yerself a time.
This maze actually isn't nearly as mazy as Super Shinobi's though so eh it's just kind of depressing playing this.
Oh lots of force scrolly stages, too, like, cowabunga, dudes--and Sonic-style elevator rides with cheap deaths.
OH and vs the final boss I finally found that the explode-yourself bomb/spell thing refills your health at the cost of a life; my super-boring save scummery had maxed the visible lives counter (at "greater than" 9) so I didn't realize this until I'd already cashed in three or so, but well I guess that saved some annoyance and tedium in the end at least because guess what it was another boss fight with really janky repetitive mechanics fweeee
