2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment have received their Op Herrick medals this morning at Palace Barracks in Holywood.

The Battalion deployed in September 2011 to the Upper Gereshk Valley where they provided security along route 611, in support of 20 Armoured Brigade.

It was 2 Mercians' fourth tour in Afghanistan, during the tour two of the Battalion were killed and six others injured.

The Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier Andrew Sharp, made the presentations.
