Gun battles have been going on through the night at a lakeside hotel outside the Afghan capital Kabul. It follows an attack by heavily-armed Taliban insurgents. Civilians have been killed in the assault, and the insurgents have taken a number of families hostage, although many are now reported to have been released. Afghan forces are leading the operation against the gunmen.
