20 Tips - How To Speed Up Windows 7 And Increase Performance

Tip 1 - Buy an SSD hard drive. I recommend to increase windows 7 performance to have 2 hard-drives, a dedicated SSD hard drive for your windows 7 operating system, then a 2nd hard drive to install your apps to and store your data.
Tip 2 - Disable programs from loading at windows startup. click start and type in msconfig then select the starup tab, now remove all the programs you want to disable from auto starting.
Tip 3 - Make sure your computer has enough memory and is not paging to disk. Check in task manager under the performance tab how much free memory you have.
Tip 4 - Disable Windows Defender. If you have installed an anti-virus application make sure you disable the windows 7 built in anti-virus application. Click start menu - control panel - Windows defender, Tools - Options - Administrator, untick the box next to "Use this program"
Tip 5 - Disable windows services that are not required. Type in services.msc in the start menu and hit enter. Now double click on a service you want to disable and change the startup to disabled.
Tip 6 - Disable indexing will help to speed up windows 7.. Open my computer and right click on the C: drive and select properties. Untick the indexing box and hit ok.
Tip 7 - Turn off visual effects. Go in to control panel and search for performance, then click on performance information - Adjust visual effects - Adjust for best performance.
Tip 8 - Don't use Aero Themes. Go to control panel - Personalization and select a theme from the basic list.
Tip 9 - Disable hardware you dont use. Go in to device manager and right click on the hardware you dont use and select disable.
Tip 10 - Disable windows sounds. Go in to control panel - sounds select no sounds.
Tip 11 - Uninstall programs you dont use. Go to control panel - Programs and uninstall any applications you dont use.
Tip 12 - Check Disk IO Reads / Writes In Task Manager. Identify processes that are using alot of disk IO.
Tip 13 - Run a Chkdsk. Open windows explorer and right click on your C: drive - properties - Tools tab - Error checking - tick both boxes then select ok and reboot.
Tip 14 - Run a defrag. Open windows explorer and right click on your C: drive - properties - Tools tab - Defrag - click on defrag now.
Tip 15 - Run Disk Clean up. Open windows explorer and right click on your C: drive - properties - Disk Clean up.
Tip 16 - Reduce Start Menu Delay. Click start and type in regedit and hit enter. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop change the menushowdelay setting from 400 to 20.
Tip 17 - Change Power Settings To Performance. Open control panel - power - select performance power setting.
Tip 18 - Run a virus scan on your windows 7 machine and remove any virus it finds. A virus can slow down a windows 7 machine.
Tip 19 - Disable UAC prompts. Open control panel and search for UAC, move the slidder to the bottom and click on ok.
Tip 20 - Disable windows updates. Go in to control panel and click on windows updates, click on change settings, and select never check for updates.
