Documentary Screening: The Education of Joshua Wong: Making of a Protestor

This 97-minute documentary follows two secondary school classmates over 18 months. One is Joshua Wong, a student activist who founded the group Scholarism that spearheaded the fight against National Education in schools in 2012. His former schoolmate Ma Jai is a dropout who got jailed and faces potential prosecution for desecrating the flag. The film is a visceral experience of their epic struggle and catapults the viewer onto the streets of Hong Kong and into the heart of the action. It offers a fascinating perspective on Hong Kong today's events.

Matthew Torne was educated at the University of Kent and Oxford University, UK, and studied film production at the Hong Kong Film Academy. This documentary is his directorial debut. He previously directed and produced corporate films.

Members of Scholarism have been invited to this screening.
