2016 Chrysler 200C | 5 Reasons to Buy | Autotrader
If you're familiar with the Chrysler 200, it might be because you were offered one as a rental while on vacation, but nevermind that: This is the 2016 Chrysler 200. Talk about some positive progression; the 200 has some serious style, and you will also find plenty of substance underneath the hood. If luck is on your side and you get a chance to rent one, chances are you might end up deciding to purchase one for yourself. Check out the five reasons the 2016 Chrysler 200 is ready to take on the popular midsize-sedan segment.
Strong Fuel Economy and Performance
Partially due to its 9-speed automatic transmission, the 200's base 4-cylinder engine returns a solid 28 miles per gallon combined, including a very satisfactory 36 mpg on the highway. If the standard 184 horsepower isn't enough, opt for the V6 with a pavement-pounding 295 horses, which makes the 200 one of the quickest family sedans you'll find. Need extra traction on slippery roads? The 200 is one of the few cars in its class to offer all-wheel drive. Combined with the V6, the all-wheel-drive system makes the 200 an interesting lower-priced alternative to some expensive entry-level luxury sedans.
Attractive, High-Quality Cabin
Chrysler has been hard at work perfecting their interior quality, and hard work has paid off as this cabin might be the company's best yet. There are soft-touch materials everywhere, and the attractive dashboard has plenty of style with its graceful curves and rakish center control panel. Interiors don't usually make or break a purchase, but the 200's is nice enough to tip the scales. In this segment, they all basically follow the same mold, but the 200's classy decor stands out.
Stellar Touchscreen
The 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system is among the best we have seen, and it's readily available on the Chrysler 200. It offers a large, colorful screen with iPad-like icons that's so user-friendly just about anyone can figure it out. Most touchscreens in this class are relatively small and humble, with the good stuff reserved for higher-end trim levels. Chrysler, however, gave the 200 the same top-of-the-line Uconnect system that you'll find in its siblings, the Chrysler 300 luxury sedan and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, among others. It's the real deal.
Nimble Handling
The Chrysler 200 is smaller than some rival family sedans, and from the driver's seat, that's a positive. Whether you're having fun on a back road or swerving to keep your family out of harms way, the 200 has a surprisingly athletic feel and solid stability for a mainstream car. In fact, if you trace its lineage back, you'll find some Alfa Romeo genes in the chassis. Chrysler's new parent company is FIAT, which also owns Alfa Romeo, and the Italians certainly know how to tune a suspension.
Sporty S Model
Our test car was the 200S trim level, and the S definitely stands for sporty in this case. Some standard features include 18-in wheels, fog lights and a sport-tuned suspension. It's not that you actually need these features, but it's nice that Chrysler gives you the option. Not to mention, those wheels give the 200 a cool, upscale look that the typical midsize sedan just can't match.
AutoTrader says
With its attractive styling and excellent efficiency, performance and equipment, the 2016 Chrysler 200 is a breath of fresh air. You can forget the rental, the 200 is a definite keeper.
