Engine Options
The Explorer comes standard with a solid 3.5-liter V6 with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, making 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. You can also opt for the 365-hp twin-turbo V6 or the 270-hp 4-cylinder, which delivers a satisfactory 28 miles per gallon on the highway.
Comfortable Cabin
Ford really dialed in when creating the 2016 Ford Explorer interior. The ultra-supportive seats, soft-touch dashboard and upscale materials give it a nice, premium feel. We especially like the optional MyFord Touch interface. It can do cool things such as read your text messages and other voice-activated commands, allowing you to focus on the road ahead.
Sharp Looks
The Explorer is certainly deserving of a double take. In any of its five different trim levels, the Explorer has an attractive, unique design with standard automatic LED headlights, roof rails and 18-inch alloy wheels moving you along. Ford's design department nailed it with the Explorer.
Smooth Drive
You'll find yourself feeling quickly settled upon entering the Explorer and stepping on the gas. The overall quiet cabin sets the tone for a pleasant riding experience, and the Explorer handles well through turns. However, if you want extra sport-tuned precision, the Explorer Sport more than does the job.
