2023 Cadillac Lyriq vs 2022 Tesla Model X Comparison.

Cadillac's first entrant into the luxury electric vehicle market will be the Lyriq SUV, which offers sharp styling and a modern cabin. Cadillac says that both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive models will be offered, and that its new SUV will have a driving range of more than 300 miles. The Lyriq has been designed from the ground up and will ride on General Motors' new scalable battery architecture; the company claims a low center of gravity and a spacious cabin as benefits of the dedicated EV-architecture. The Lyriq should be on sale sometime in early 2022 as a 2023 model.

What's New for 2023?

Not only is Lyriq a brand-new nameplate for the American luxury brand, it's also Cadillac's first all-electric offering. When it goes on sale, it'll go head to head with heavy hitters such as the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, and Tesla Model X.

The 2022 Tesla Model X is a prime example of the EV automakers' brand ethos. Quick, high-tech, and featuring a flashy gimmick in its Falcon-wing rear doors, it presents a unique-but-expensive proposition in the growing EV-crossover segment. The Model X comes standard with two electric motors making a total of 670 horsepower and all-wheel drive; a three-motor version called Plaid makes an astounding 1020 horsepower and is said to shoot to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. That mega-motor version will be available in late 2022 according to Tesla. The Model X isn't as agile as the mechanically similar Model S sedan, but it's surprisingly agile given its size and weight. The cabin is an exercise in modernism, with a giant screen dominating the dashboard providing touch-sensitive access to most of the Model X's features. A third row of seats provides room for the whole family, and the second row can be ordered with captain's chairs.

What's New for 2022?
Last year's Long Range model is now called simply Model X and its estimated range falls from 363 miles per charge to 351. The high-performance Plaid trim, which was introduced last year, also has a revised driving range estimation, which is now 335 miles per charge versus 340. The awkward yoke-style (rectangular) steering wheel introduced last year carries over.

Motors is pressing ahead to mass produce the Cadillac Lyriq crossover, the brand’s first full-electric vehicle, in Shanghai even though the city remains locked down because of COVID-19.

Pre-production of the Lyriq started at the Cadillac plant in Shanghai last week, GM’s China unit said.

The automaker has begun optimizing manufacturing processes, and conducting reliability tests and local validation of various Lyriq functions, including infotainment systems and driver assist technology, according to GM China.

The Lyriq being built initially for the Chinese market is a rear-drive, long-range variant. It will have a range of more than 650 kilometers (403 miles) and feature a 33-inch-diagonal LED infotainment screen, large panoramic glass dome and GM’s Super Cruise driver assist technology with lane-changing capability.

GM expects to start delivering the locally produced Lyriq to Chinese customers in mid 2022.
