21The Kia Picanto is celebrating 20 years of sales in the United Kingdom, having first been introduced to the market in 2004, the same year that Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook. Over two decades, Kia has sold more than 260,000 units of the Picanto in the United Kingdom, marking a significant achievement with three all-new generations and four mid-life facelifts.
Originally launched in South Korea in 2003 as the Kia ‘Morning,’ the city car was renamed ‘Picanto’ for the European market. Despite being the smallest vehicle in Kia’s United Kingdom range, the Picanto has consistently excelled in sales performance, becoming Kia’s fourth best-selling model in the United Kingdom this year and surpassing a quarter of a million sales milestone in August 2023. It is the second best-selling model in Kia UK’s history, trailing only the Sportage.
The Picanto’s popularity is driven by its appeal in the A-segment market, which focuses on compact, versatile, and accessible cars. In 2024, the Picanto ranks as the third best-selling car in its segment and holds an all-time-high market share of over 25 percent. The 2024 mid-life update brings a refreshed, aggressive design, and enhanced onboard technology, safety systems, and comfort, solidifying the Picanto’s position as one of the most advanced models in its segment. The latest Picanto is now on sale, with first deliveries expected in July.
