(Left the game sound too high relative to the mic input, so some of my droning commentary is a little more inaudible than usual. Think I'll do another GGX episode two days from now (with another new used DC fighting game arriving in between : ), w/ lots of different characters in Survival mode, and hopefully correct audio balance to try to make up for it... Maybe I'll even look up that Johnny coin thing in the mean time! =p)

Notes:

52'00 - You unlock Testament (did that here) and Dizzy by defeating them in Survival. No Robo Ky in this one.

Guilty Gear X's high-res (480p! in VGA mode!) 2D fighting game action kind of blew me away when it came out on the Dreamcast, I felt sure this was the way of the future. That future didn't quite come to pass, and I do love the abstract style of the original, low-res sprite look of fighting games and in retrospect I'm glad that didn't go away, but the GG series as it moved into the GGXX games got more complicated and weirdly aliased and jaggiffied; to my mind, this remains the most engaging game in the series, and still one of the most gorgeous fighting games ever (and this is back when Arc System Works were freehand-drawing their characters, rather than rotoscoping them from 3D models). The detail! The colors!

And oh my gosh, there are five more colors for characters, only you have to beat Survival (level 100 :L) to unlock them--then you'd press and hold for two seconds one of the five regular color buttons: A,B,X,Y,Start.
