3 Awesome Famicom Japanese Import Games You NEED to Play
What do you do if you're a fan of games on the Nintendo Entertainment System but you're curious about playing import games for the Japanese version, the Famicom? You need to know a lot of Japanese to be able to play them and enjoy them, right? Well, you don't. We were recently live streaming when one of our viewers asked what games I would recommend to play on the NES that were from the Famicom. So here are three great games that you can enjoy and you don't need to know any Japanese to have a great time.
How to play Famicom games on the NES:
One thing that may confuse some people is how do you actually play games for the Famicom on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The solution is easy, there are 60 to 72-pin adapters out there that will essentially convert the pens from a Famicom to plug into an NES. Hyper can also just recently announced a new adapter that will help you do this.
Honorable mention:
Samurai Pizza cats
Okay, I just talked about this game recently and how amazing it is but it legit is awesome. If you can pick up a copy I cannot recommend it more highly enough, and the beautiful thing is it's not that expensive.
Number three:
Wai Wai World 2
Some of the best games of the 8-Bit era came from Konami, so you can only imagine how much fun a game based on characters from different Konami games would be. That is where Wai Wai World 2 comes in as you can play as characters from so many different games. It has shooter stages, side-scrolling stages, action platforming stages, and so much more.
Number two:
Perodious Da!
If you like shoot'em up such as Life Force and Gradius, you're going to love Parodius Da. Similar to Wai Wai World, this game is based on other Konami IPs and smashes them together in a collaboration. I would say if anything it plays mostly like Gradius, with a little bit of Twin Bee as well.
Number one
Kid Dracula
I have talked many times before about my love for Kid Dracula and this is a fantastic title. You can play it now through the Castlevania Collection on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox but you can also import the cartridge and play it as well. In Kid Dracula, you scroll through and fight many of the monsters that Simon Belmont did in Castlevania, but this time they're fighting against Dracula instead of with him. This is a terrific title and requires no knowledge of Japanese at all.
What are some of your favorite imported Japanese games from the Famicom? What games would you recommend those just starting out to check out? Leave your opinions in the comments.
