Game Over Man, Game Over! 5 Of The Best NES Game Over Screens
The game over screen, there's not much more that can punch you in the gut during a video game that takes it out of you like when you see it's game over. Some game over screens are just a black screen and text, while others combine brilliant music and snarky text to tell you that you suck. It's Gamer Over man, GAME OVER as we check out 5 of the best Game Over Screens on the NES.
Ghosts N Goblins
It's not bad enough that this game is tough as nails and you'll hear this tune repeatedly, but it's a bit dark too. It has elements of Chopin's Funeral March to it, and if you're a wrestling fan it even conjures up images of the Undertaker. Get used to it, though, you'll hear it often.
Double Dragon
The funny thing about the Game Over in Double Dragon is the music almost sounds like it has a bit of sad trombone to it! Definitely an easier game with 2 players, the NES Version gets much harder quickly as you progress.
MIke Tyson's Punch Out
It's bad enough when you get to Tyson and you lose, but then the guy mocks you in the ring and the game suggests that you should consider giving it all up and just retiring?!!? That's harsh, game! But then again, Tyson ain't no ordinary fighter, and beating him will take more than just strapping on a Power Glove.
Contra
One of the games that almost NEEDS the Konami Code, Contra is a game where you will die and die often. And when you do bite the bullet you know instantly. It has the feeling of a game over sound, which just means it's time to enter the Konami code one more time and get back in there.
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
When you die in a game, losing progress is one thing. But in Zelda 2 you basically are told you let the entire world down and Ganon is coming back to take it over. Way to go, you suck! Thankfully, you can always continue, even if Ganon wants you to throw your controller down and walk away.
We all hate losing but what are some of your favorite end screens in video games when it is game over?
